The Sacred Heart Academy field hockey team notched a memorable moment Friday when it knocked off a defending state champion that hadn’t lost a game in four years.
The Valkyries’ 3-2 victory over Eastern Regional High School (Voorhees, N.J.) in Kingston, Pa., snapped a 142-game undefeated streak for the Vikings. Amazingly, the streak was only the second-longest in program history, after the 153-game unbeaten run between 1999 and 2005.
Mattie Tabor, Tori Hill and Lauren Szwarc each scored a goal for the Valkyries, who went on to also defeat tournament host Wyoming Seminary, 1-0, and Holy Redeemer, 3-1.
Following the 3-0 weekend, Sacred Heart improved its overall record to 16-5, with three of the five defeats coming to city rival Assumption.
