The Xavier Prep baseball team picked up a non-league win on Friday, taking down Yucca Valley 6-3, led by Alan Ferrer’s five shutout innings on the mound. Ferrer allowed just three hits and struck out five batters with one walk in the win.
At the plate, Isaiah Alderete and Ryan Van Meeteren each went 2-for-3, combining for three RBIs, while Ferrer went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Saints (3-6) play again on Saturday at Aquinas.
Palm Springs 6, Coachella Valley 2: Alec Merrill led the charge on the mound for the Indians, picking up the team’s first DVL win of the season in their opening game while lasting four innings and giving up no runs with two strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, Daniel Olvera and Addison Degollado both went 3-for-3, combining to score three runs while Degollado knocked in three RBIs.
Coachella Valley 238, Central 261: Juan Torres finished medalist for the Arabs, leading them to victory with a 39 at the Golf Club at La Quinta. Robert Rodriguez and Izaiha Lucas followed with 48s.
The Arabs (2-4, 1-3) host Brawley next on Tuesday.
Rancho Mirage 14, Desert Mirage 4: The Rattlers picked up their first win with hopes of defending their De Anza League title. Daniel Whelan and Ismael Cuevas each picked up two singles sets, with Luis Velasquez and Tanner Williams each winning one.
In doubles, Marco Giron and Javier Campos, along with Ivan Chan-Hernandez and Carter Manajero and Juan Felix and Alex Arias each won two sets. Julian Parks and Alexis Magana and John Aranda and Alex Moreno each won one.
For the Rams, Juan Mendez picked up two sets in singles 6-3, 6-4, while Martin Montez won one 6-2. In doubles, David Savellano and Erick Estrada picked up the team’s lone set 6-4.
Desert Mirage competes next on Wednesday at Shadow Hills.
