Fourth-ranked Floyd Central softball tallied 10 runs on nine hits in the fourth inning and cruised to a 16-4 five-inning win over Seymour in the first round of the Class 4-A Seymour Sectional Monday.
The win extends the Highlanders’ unbeaten streak to 22 games. Floyd advances to Tuesday night’s sectional semifinal against Jennings County at 5 p.m. before New Albany-BNL at 7 p.m.
Seymour got on the board first with a one-hit, two-run first inning before the Highlanders plated a run in the bottom of the frame. The score held until Floyd’s five-run third that made it 6-2.
The Owls responded with two in the fourth prior to a 10-run outburst from the Highlanders, which sealed the final.
Borden 6, New Washington 0: The host Braves used a strong performance from Paige Schindler to blank the visiting Mustangs 6-0 in the Class A Borden Sectional semifinals Monday.
Borden moves to Tuesday’s sectional final matchup with Lanesville, a five-inning winner over South Central 11-0, at 7 p.m.
Jennings County 10, Jeffersonville 0: A two-run home run by Alexis Brown in the sixth inning lifted the Panthers to a run-rule result.
Jennings County advances to Tuesday’s sectional semifinal against Floyd Central at 5 p.m.
Henryville 7, Providence 0: The top-ranked Hornets blanked the Pioneers and will match up with Clarksville, an 8-1 winner over Paoli, Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Class 2-A Crawford County Sectional semis. Eastern will face Crawford County in the second semifinal, slated for 6:30 p.m.
Brownstown 3, North Harrison 2: Brownstown advances to a semifinal matchup with Silver Creek Wednesday in the Class 3-A Corydon Sectional.
