Seton Catholic’s Desmond Bane is closing in on a college decision.
The 6-5 Bane, a senior guard, will play with the Indiana Elite 2017 team the next two weekends. April 15-17 is an NCAA evaluation period, meaning college coaches will be able to see Bane play.
Bane’s stock rose considerably during a senior season that saw him average 30.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 3.2 blocked shots for Class A Seton Catholic. The Cardinals were 23-4, losing 56-51 in the regional to eventual state champion Liberty Christian.
Ball State, IPFW, Miami (Ohio), New Orleans and Ohio have offered Bane. Northwestern, Purdue and Xavier have been in touch and said they’ll watch him during the evaluation period. Bane said he’s planning to visit Purdue on April 21 for a workout.
Prep school is a potential option, though Bane said he’d prefer to enroll as a freshman next year. He plans to make a commitment on April 23.
Bane has taken two of his allotted five official visits — to Ohio and Furman. He’s taken unofficial visits to Ball State, IPFW, Miami and Purdue.
