There are several games that highlight the week 8 prep football schedule as district races come down to the final three weeks of the season.
The mamouth of games starts with Evangel traveling to face Airline in a District 1-5A clash. Both teams are 3-0 in the district with Airline sporting a 6-1 overall mark and Evangel 5-2.
It will be a battle of two of the best defenses in northwest Louisiana. Evangel has shutout its last three opponents and gave up just 8 points to district foe Parkway who averages 42.5 points per game on the season. Airline had a string of three consecutive shutouts until last week’s 35-17 win over Haughton.
It will be just the fourth meeting between the two schools with Evangel winning the previous three.
Haughton will entertain Parkway in another key District 1-5A game. The Bucs (1-2, 4-3) will be out to stop a two-game losing skid in district. Parkway (2-1, 6-1) has won its last three games after its only loss of the season to Evangel.
Josh Lister will be back in the lineup for Haughton after sitting out last week’s game due to being ejected in the previous week’s game.
Parkway quarterback Justin Rogers is coming off a 352-yard passing night last week against non-district opponent Booker T. Washington.
Haughton leads the series 30-12.
A big game in District 1-4A will pit Benton (3-1, 6-1) against Woodlawn (4-0, 6-1) at Independence Stadium Friday night.
The Knights have reeled off four straight wins since their only loss to 5A Haughton.
Benton’s only defeat came to undefeated district foe Minden 42-28 a couple weeks ago.
Benton leads the series 9-2.
It will be a battle between Northwood’s explosive offense against a stingy Minden defense Friday night at Jerry Burton Stadium. The Tide (4-0, 7-0) has posted three shutouts on the season and allowed just 75 points on the year. The Falcons (1-3, 2-5) have quarterback Peyton Bogan who has passed for over 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns. Receivers LaCedric Smith (27 catches, 648 yards) and Trayon Jones Jr. (25-523) are both lethal weapons.
Minden leads the series 23-17.
