Silver Creek took the lead early and cruised to a 70-31 win over Scottsburg.
There was no slow start for the Dragons, who got out to a double digit lead (12-2) after a basket by Christian Reed with 3:21 left in the first quarter – it was 14-3 going into the second.
“We came out like a mature team should,” Silver Creek coach Brandon Hoffman said. “We wanted to play up to our standard. I think tonight is an indication of our team’s focus.”
When Reed, a 6-6 senior center, wasn’t overpowering the Warriors in the post, the Dragons were scoring from long range. Sammy Barnett’s two 3-pointers helped Silver Creek to a 27-7 lead midway through the second quarter. Late in the quarter, an offensive rebound by Reed led to his three-point play that put the Dragons up 34-9 at the break.
Silver Creek didn’t let up in the third quarter, and when Cameron Stephens hit two free throws and a field goal the lead was 31 (51-20) with 3:45 remaining. Silver Creek led 53-22 going into the fourth quarter.
For the game, Reed scored 17 points, Ryan Baker added 12 and Zane Gross scored 10 to lead Silver Creek.
Scottsburg, which finishes the season at 1-22, was led by Dustin Yocum’s 13 points.
