The Western North Carolina Athletic Conference’s seven-time defending champion still has something to say about how the current regular-season race.

A lot to say.

Tommy Brennan (28 points) and Damon Ledford (22) combined for 50 points Friday night in Sylva. And the Smoky Mountain boys got 13 assists from Jayce Wolfe as they roared to a 70-53 win over previously-undefeated North Henderson.

Wolfe, who is a four-year starting point guard for the Mustangs (13-3, 5-2), has been sidelined in recent weeks by an ankle sprain.

Smoky Mountain carried a one-point lead into the fourth quarter and then proceeded to outscore the visiting Knights (15-1, 6-1) in the final eight minutes, 22-6. Trey Tritt had eight rebounds.

North Henderson was the last undefeated basketball team in WNC, boys or girls. Drew Williams scored a team-high 20 points to go along with three assists for the Knights, while Austin Nelson added 15 points and five rebounds.
