Ryan Naccarato has come to expect certain things from his team.
Formidable pitching, capable hitting up and down the lineup and the ability to win close games are among those things. His Marlboro High School softball team put all of it together against host New Paltz Monday, wining 4-3 in eight innings to clinch a berth into the Mid-Hudson Athletic League tournament.
The Iron Dukes (16-2) will host Franklin D. Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals Wednesday.
“My expectations are the same as (Monday),” Naccarato said of the tournament. “Come out strong, play a clean game with strong pitching and fielding, and our bats need to do all they can to get the lead.”
After hitting a double, Amber Mianti scored the go-ahead run in the top of eighth to give Marlboro the lead. Missy Sadler knocked her in with a double and finished with two RBI and a run scored.
Teammate Cassie Lapointe doubled and hit two singles, while Sara Cerone doubled, drove in a run and scored.
Taylor Felicello recorded the win in relief of Lily Moresco.
“We just came together as a team and fought through adversity,” Naccarato said. “At any time, any girl can step up and produce.”
Ally Pannuto singled three times for New Paltz. Adriana Crimi doubled and singled, while Allie DeFoe drove in two runs and singled twice. Karly Giancola swatted an RBI single.
