Olivia Zoeller singled up the middle to drive in Shannon Ward with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning as visiting Pawling High School’s softball team topped Walter Panas, 12-11, on Thursday in Cortland.
Zoeller went 4 for 4 with four runs and hit a two-run opposite-field homer in the first inning. She also earned the win, pitching two innings of relief.
“It was a great, dramatic win,” Pawling coach John Hodge said. “Our kids were so excited at the end. I’m proud of the way they stuck together and never lost focus. It was great to see.”
Pawling trailed, 8-4, in the third inning, but rallied and scored three runs in the seventh to take a 11-10 lead. However, Panas homered in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.
Lily Prinz and Mikalya Ward each hit two homers and had three RBI for Pawling (2-0).
The Tigers visit John Jay-Cross River at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Roy C. Ketcham 4, Lourdes 0 — Jessica Roe struck out ten and walked two as the host Indians opened their season with a shutout win over the Warriors.
Natalia Wendover had a two-out RBI single in the first inning for Ketcham.
For Lourdes, Anna Anderson struck out one and walked four over six innings.
Ketcham visits Yorktown at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Hendrick Hudson 11, Arlington B 2 — Tabitha Rice went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the visiting Admirals.
Arlington B (0-1) visits Peekskill for a doubleheader on Monday.
Behind a 3 for 4 performance from Jon Cepeda, Ketcham beat host Clarkstown North 8-5 on Thursday in New City in their opener.
Cepeda clubbed a triple, two doubles and knocked in four runs.
“He was a man among boys with the bat,” said Ketcham coach Pat Mealy.
Steve Henry finished 2 for 2 with a home run while Eric Merrill was 2 for 2 with two RBI.
Pitcher Greg Blum picked up the win.
The Indians will visit Lakeland at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Webutuck 12, Poughkeepsie 8 — Ethan Lounsbury was 3 for 3 with a triple and four runs scored for the visiting Warriors. Teammate Chris Reed finished 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.
Lucas Ramos was 2 for 4 for the Pioneers with a home run, a triple and two runs scored.
Steve Disla finished 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Poughkeepsie (0-1) faces Spackenkill at home on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
Webutuck hosts Onteora at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Brewster 13, Our Lady of Lourdes 5 – The visiting Warriors dropped to 0-2 despite two RBI and a run scored from Jon Piascki.
Adam Hilal added an RBI and a run for Lourdes, which faces Beacon at Dutchess Community College on Saturday.
Hendrick Hudson 6, Arlington B 3 — Mike Bulgia and Jarett Tanner each went 2 for 3 with a run and Mike Delia was 1 for 3 with a double for host Arlington B late Thursday.
Sophomore Anthony Russo struck out four in 5 2/3 innings in his first varsity start.
Arlington B visits Ossining at 11 a.m. Saturday.
