St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) and St. Ignatius (Cleveland) shared the Super 25 boys soccer national title last fall and were ranked 1-2 in the preseason rankings this season.
In the first USA TODAY Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association Super 25 of the regular season, the teams have flipped places with St. Ignatius taking the top spot by virtue of a 4-0 start. St. Benedict’s is 2-0.
Both schools have been racking up the goals in their early outings. St. Ignatius has outscored its four opponents by a margin of 16-2 and St. Benedict’s has a 7-0 victory on its resume.
Rockhurst (Kansas City), ranked No. 6 in the preseason, moves up to No. 3 followed by St. Anthony’s (Melville, N.Y.) and Fairview (Boulder, Colo.). St. Anthony’s is 1-0 with a victory against Commack (N.Y.) and Fairview is 2-0 with a pair of three-goal victories.
St. Anthony’s leads a group of 11 teams that were unranked in the preseason to join the Super 25.
Among that group is No. 9 Harrison (West Lafayete, Ind.), No. 10 Archbishop Curley (Severn, Md.), No. 11 Olathe East (Olathe, Kan.), No. 12 Jesuit (Portland, Ore.) and No. 13 East Ridge (Woodbury, Minn.).
