Five teams and four individuals qualified for championship brackets Tuesday, the first of two days of competition at the FHSAA bowling tournament in Orlando.
Led by Danielle Koehler, who qualified seventh individually, Rockledge’s girls were seeded fourth on the team bracket. The Titusville girls took the No. 2 spot, while Covenant Christian was 14th and Viera 16th. To qualify, Koehler bowled a four-game total of 853.
Bayside’s boys team qualified in sixth and, after dropping to consolation play, will play Lake Mary at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rockledge girls will face Sebring at the same time, and the winner will face Titusville in the following round.
The remaining individual girls qualifiers were Crystal Elliott of Eau Gallie with a four-game series of 839, Titusville’s Veronica Petrinec with an 831 and her teammate Illyssa Jaraplasan (804).
Owens 12th at state golf
Dayna Owens of Cocoa High shot a 74 on Wednesday and finished in a tie for 12th place at the Class 2A state golf tournament at Mission Inn and Resort.
Owens, who shot 82 on Tuesday, finished 16 shots behind the medalist, Kendall Griffin of Sebring. Bryan Lanza of Rockledge tied for 31st at 20 over par at Howey-in-the-Hills as an individual qualifier for the boys tournament.
Cocoa Beach’s Delia Timpy shot 79-88 last week on the same course in the 1A girls field.
Holy Trinity eliminated in regional final
Holy Trinity lost its regional final on Tuesday in Class 5A. The Tigers season ended with a loss to Lake Highland Prep by a score of 25-14, 25-11, 25-16 in Melbourne. Lake Highland Prep advanced to the state tournament.
