The Panthers return three starting guards, but they won’t be able to improve upon last season’s unbeaten 6A state championship team. The top returning player is junior 6-0 G Zarielle Green (14.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.8 spg, 2.3 apg), who was the MVP of the state championship. Junior 5-7 G Aniya Thomas (8.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.9 spg) and senior PG Nina Alvarez got plenty of playing time.
The team is also looking forward to the return of G Starr Jacobs, who missed the last three months of the season with a knee injury. A key transfer is 6-0 junior F Krislyn Marsh, who had a double-double for at Brea Olinda (Brea, Calif.), in its state Div. I championship game last season. Others to watch include 6-0 F Jayla Johnson, a Texas State signee and Lauryn Bowie, a Nicholls State signee.
