The Spartans have won three consecutive state 3A titles and return four of five starters.
The two key players back are 5-8 senior PG Channise Lewis (12.5 ppg, 7.0 apg, 3.5 spg), an Illinois signee, and 5-9 senior W Kelsey Marshall (15.2 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3.0 spg, 4.5 rpg), who is headed to Miami. Junior 5-7 G Maria Alvarez (9.5 ppg) made 74 three-pointers last season. Senior 5-11 F DaShaun Jackson (7.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and 6-2 post Aasiya Berry (5.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) are key players as well.
The team’s top newcomer is Pine Crest Prep (Fort Lauderdale) junior W Asha Taylor, who averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds last season.
