Some of the top high school baseball talent in the nation will be on display this week in the Louisville area as the second annual Super Prep Baseball Series hosted by Ballard is set.

The event will run Wednesday-Saturday at four sites — Ballard, Fern Creek, South Oldham and Thurman Hutchins Park. A total of 20 teams are entered from seven states — Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio, New Jersey and West Virginia.

Tournament director Scott Adell called the event one-of-a-kind in the Midwest. He said one team to watch will be Memorial from West New York, New Jersey. The Tigers feature junior right-handed pitcher Justin Willis, who has committed to Vanderbilt.

“He can touch low to mid 90s” with his fastball, Adell said.

Along with Ballard, Trinity and South Oldham, other Kentucky teams in the field are Beechwood, Southwestern and Tates Creek. Ballard (No. 1), Trinity (No. 10), Beechwood (No. 13) and Southwestern (No. 20) are all ranked in the top 20 of the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association’s poll.

The event also includes nine players who have signed or committed to the University of Louisville or the University of Kentucky.

Headed to U of L are Ballard senior Jake Snider and junior Jordon Adell, Indianapolis North Central junior Roy Thurman, Clarksville (Ind.) Providence sophomore Tim Borden and Beechwood senior Ethan Stringer.

Those who have committed to UK are Trinity senior Brett Marshall, South Oldham junior Tanner Johnson, Tates Creek senior Jaren Shelby and Beechwood senior Braydon Combs.
