BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Taurean Thompson, a Brewster Academy player from Jersey City, N.J., returned to the tri-state area and had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead Team New York to a 148-128 victory against Team East in the regional game as part of the Jordan Brand Classic.
“I don’t go to school in New York anymore but whenever I (play here), I try to make the most of it,” Thompson said. “I’m up in New Hampshire and that’s seven hours from home. Once I herd everyone was coming — my grandmother, my little cousins, I was like, I really have to turn it up.”
Thompson, a 6-9 four-star power forward, has taken official visits to Syracuse and Xavier and indicates those schools along with Georgetown, Providence and Seton Hall are among his biggest suitors. Thompson is ranked No. 86 in the ESPN 100 and is among only a handful of Class of 2016 players who remain uncommitted. The spring signing period began Wednesday.
Elijah Pemberton, a Hofstra signee from Cheshire (Conn.) Academy, had 22 points for Team East. The game capped a busy spring for Pemberton, who won the #DreamFearlessly Fan Vote for the final spot in the dunk contest at the American Family Insurance High School Slam & Three-Point Championships during Final Four weekend in Houston.
