Within 48 hours of his final decision, four-star Nacogdoches safety Brandon Jones made it clear that he wasn’t going to bolt from the state borders. On Wednesday morning he let the good people of the Lone Star State know that his future is as a Longhorn.
Jones picked Texas ahead of Baylor and Texas A&M in a ceremony at Nacogdoches High to wild cheers and applause. He was long considered likely to end up with either Texas A&M or Baylor, with Texas a late hard charger on the back of an in-home visit from head coach Charlie Strong and growing buzz around the potential for the Longhorns’ Class of 2016.
The USA TODAY Texas Defensive Player of the Year will be one of the top prospects in his new school’s Class of 2016, and could find himself thrust into action during his freshman season. There’s little doubt that the 6-foot, 195-pounder will be expecting to make an impact from the get go. He’s clearly excited to get started.
