DeSoto handed then-No. 5 Atascocita (Humble) its first loss in the Texas 6A state championship as Tristen Wallace led DeSoto with 25 points in a 73-54 win.
It was Atascocita’s first loss and the 38-1 Eagles fell to No. 23. DeSoto (36-2) joins the Super 25 boys basketball rankings at No. 16. There are three other new teams: No. 20 Overland (Aurora, Colo.); No. 24 Simeon (Chicago) and No. 25 Advanced Prep International (Dallas).
Jervae Robinson had 18 points for Overland (25-3) in a 66-56 defeat of Rangeview (Aurora) for the Colorado 5A championship. Simeon (28-3) defeated Thornton (Harvey) 88-75 in the 4A Bloom Sectional final as Josh Thomas had 23 points.
Advanced Prep (34-7) has the most losses of any team in the Super 25, but the Bulldogs are on a 21-game winning streak. Terrance Ferguson had 26 points in a 69-68 defeat of Pro-Vision Academy (Houston) in the Texas Christian Athletic League 4A championship.
The top four teams remain the same — Chino Hills (Calif.), Montverde (Fla.) Academy, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) and St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.). Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) moves up one spot to round out the top 5.
