The Damon Harge Blog: Prepping for Peach Jam, college coaches start calling and more

Damon Harge Jr. is one of the most well-known high school basketball players on YouTube with more than 15 million views on his highlight videos; and it’s been that way since he was 11. Harge, one of the top point guards in the 2018 class, helped Orlando Christian Prep (Orlando, Fla.) win a state title as an eighth grader and holds offers from high major schools. Now he’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Hey world! It’s Damon Harge here with my fifth blog so I hope you guys like it!

Right now the only thing I’m focusing on is Peach Jam!

That’s coming up next week and I’m excited to play. My team (Southern Stampede) plays really hard and when we’re playing together we’re tough to beat.

I think the things that we’re gonna have to do better next week is rebound and defend. We went 3-2 in our last EYBL session in Atlanta, but I think we learned a lot from that.

We definitely have the talent to win Peach Jam, we just have to put it all together.

I know the summertime is a time to take it easy for most kids my age, but, for me, this is when the hardest work starts!

My day starts with a 6 a.m. skills workout with my dad then I get up about 200 shots with my dad at the end. We’re done by about 10 a.m. then I’ll lift from 11 a.m. to noon

After that I have summer ball practice at my school from 1.-3 p.m. and right after that at 3:30 p.m. I get up 1,000 shots.

It’s a hard process to go through, but I’m determined to get better!

I get a little rest in between workouts, but this is what I love to do so it’s like a vacation for me.

Earlier this month was when the college coaches could start reaching out to my class and it’s been pretty crazy since then!

N.C. State, Arizona State, Michigan State, Louisiana Tech, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida, Memphis and a few others have been staying in contact the most since then.

Most of the coaches are telling me they want to see me at Peach Jam so I’m looking forward to it!

I don’t feel like that puts pressure on me; it actually gives me even more confidence to know that all of these high major coaches want to see me. I know that if I handle my business I’ll have even more offers at the end of the summer.

OK, of course you guys know that I have to put you on to some new music and, right now, I’m listening to a lot of Lil’ Oozie Vert out of Philly! Definitely check out his music!

I’m thinking about going to see The Conjuring too so I’ll let you know how that was when I come back with my next blog.

OK everybody I’ve gotta head off to another workout, but I appreciate you reading and I’ll be back soon to let you know how we did at Peach Jam.

Wish us luck!
