This week’s USA Today High School Sports Super 25 rankings see a new face at the top as the Hill Academy from Ontario now stands as the No. 1 team in the land. The Hill Academy, a school in Vaughn, Ontario, near Toronto – is a bit of an anomaly, as a Canadian school that plays an official schedule of only U.S. teams and is undefeated so far at 3-0.
The Hill Academy makes a road trip to the Mid-Atlantic each March, which is widely followed by the lacrosse world. The Pride are on that trip this week and thus far managed to pick up wins against strong programs in Mount St. Joseph, Boys’ Latin and St. Paul’s, in that order. The Hill will play in two of the most talked about games of the high school season when the team meets No. 3 IMG Academy (Fla.) on April 4 and No. 2 Culver Academy (Ind.) on April 16.

Jeff Teat, a senior attackman committed to Cornell, has been electrifying, putting up seven goals against Boys’ Latin (Md.) and then scoring twice and assisting on six goals in The Hill’s 12-9 win over St. Paul’s. It was a game that saw numerous college coaches in attendance.
The Loyola Blakefield Dons – 16-14 winners Monday night against previous No. 1 Haverford School (Pa.) – enter the rankings at No. 7 after the enormous win. The victory just happened to be the first ever for the program under first-year head coach Ben Rubeor, the USA Today High School Sports Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year who led St. Mary’s of Annapolis to the MIAA ‘A’ Conference title in 2015.
In addition to the shuffle created by the Dons’ win over Haverford, two other teams enter the Super 25 with strong showings early on. No. 20 Malvern Prep (Pa.) was dominant in two wins to start the year, downing St. Anne’s-Belfield 15-4 and then running past Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) 21-11. No. 25 Calvert Hall (Md.) sits at 4-0 after a trio of wins in North Carolina that saw the Cardinals outscore its opponents 41-6.
Both the Friars and the Cardinals entered the year with high expectations and look like strong contenders in both of their respective leagues: Philadelphia’s Inter-Ac and the Maryland MIAA ‘A’ Conference.
The next week brings a number of exciting Super 25 matchups, including No. 2 Culver Academy taking on No. 8 Haverford on March 20.
