The Jayson Tatum Blog: State title in sights, don't sleep on Duke, Yo Gotti and more

Jayson Tatum is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and talented players in the country, regardless of class and is ranked No. 2 overall in the ESPN 100. He’s won two gold medals with USA Basketball (U17 and U19), was voted Biggest Matchup Problem by his peers after a dominant AAU season last year. Tatum, a Duke signee, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

What’s up y’all it’s Jay back with another blog!

Got lots to talk about with my birthday, playoffs and other things so let’s get it started!

Our first round of the playoffs was on my birthday and we got a big win. We’re 3-0 right now in the playoffs; three more to get to our goal! We’ve just got to compete and keep playing like we did in these last three. I love our chances!

I’m hungrier than I’ve ever been to get this state title ring. I know I’ve blogged about this in past years, but this year is different with it being my last. I want to go out on top. I’ve failed three times and I’m hoping to make the fourth one the charm.

We’ll need a lot of focus. I think last year that’s what did us in; in that Final Four game we looked past our opponent, which we were better than. Anything can happen in the playoffs though. I feel like we learned from that and we’re ready to get this thing done.

We’re still ranked No. 1 in the state, but, like I said, we’re focused.

I’m liking how my Duke boys are looking. I think people need to know to never count Duke out because you just don’t understand how hard those guys play for Coach K. I mean look at what they’ve been able to do with just six guys most of the time. That’s crazy. That’s not a team you’ll want to see in the tournament, trust me.

I’ve definitely been talking to Marques Bolden a lot more lately. I really enjoyed playing with him and enjoyed watching him play. I think he’d be a great piece to our team next year.

I’m hoping we’ll get him!

Recently I got honored by the Jordan Brand Classic and the McDonald’s All American Game at my school and that was just a huge thing for me. When I started playing, those games were the two that were big goals of mine so to have that dream come true has been amazing!

School is winding down now for me. The teachers calculated that the seniors only have around 27 days of school left. That’s just so crazy to me; it feels like my senior year just flew by.

OK, of course I have to give y’all what’s hot in music and I’ve gotta tell y’all to get that new Yo Gotti The Art of Hustle! I’m a little biased because he’s definitely my favorite rapper, but he put something on Instagram that said his album was No. 1 in the country so I guess a lot of people agree with me!

Check it out and let me know what y’all think.

OK, everybody just finished another blog so I hope you enjoyed it. Make sure you wish me a Happy Belated Birthday whenever you read this!
