Lauren Cox is the No. 1 overall player in the ESPN HoopGurlz 100 and recently committed to Baylor. This summer, Cox, a forward at Flower Mound (Flower Mound, Texas), earned her third gold medal, this time with the USA U19 National Team. Now she’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into her world by chronicling everything from intimate details about her recruitment to her everyday life in a blog.
Hey what’s up guys this is Lauren Cox coming at you with my third blog.
We just played our seventh district game. We’re 6-1 so we’re doing pretty well so far. The game we lost was to Allen at the buzzer so that was tough, but we bounced back and we’ve been playing well.
We’ve got a tough one on Friday so we’ve been preparing for that one all week.
We play Plano West, which is a big rival of ours and my future Baylor teammate, Natalie Chou, plays there so that’ll be fun to compete against her.
It’ll be a tough game, but I think we can win it.
I think we’ll have to take care of the ball because they’ve got a really tough press.
We can’t freak out! If we can just relax and not panic I think we’ll be fine.
Right now I’m averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds a game. I feel like I’m playing pretty well; I’m just doing everything I can to win and get better.
I was down at Baylor last Sunday for the OU game and I think I might be going back on Saturday to watch them play TCU.
School is back in from Christmas break; we actually just went back Tuesday. We’ve got two more weeks before finals so of course my teachers are loading us down with a lot of work. I’ve had three hours of homework every night.
It’s been crazy!
When I do get time to wind down and relax I’m usually just hanging out and watching Netflix. I finished The 100 and I finished the first season of How To Get Away With Murder! I love binge-watching shows!
I saw Krampus in the theatre and that was probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen!
Before I go I definitely want to say that I feel honored to have been nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Game. It’s definitely one of my dreams to make that game and it’s even bigger because Texas had more nominations than any other state. I think that’s just a testament to how good girls basketball is here.
OK guys I’ve gotta get outta here; told you about the crazy homework overload!
Thanks for reading and I’ll be back soon to give you guys another update.
