Michael Porter Jr. is ranked No. 3 overall in the ESPN 60 and after dominating his junior season and leading Father Tolton Catholic (Columbia, Mo.) to a state title he’s doing the same on the AAU circuit. Porter already has a who’s who of college basketball’s most elite – Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, Missouri and lots more – all giving chase. Porter has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.
What’s up everybody, it’s Mike P. back with another blog so I hope y’all like it!
Right now we’re pretty far into the EYBL season and I definitely feel like we’re playing well.
We went 4-0 last weekend in Hampton.
I’m having a lot of fun this year and our team is looking good. We’re really deep, we’ve got a lot of weapons and I don’t even think we’ve reached our potential yet. I think we’ll be even better as the season goes on so I’m liking our chances to make some noise.
Of course me and my boy Trae are playing off each other really well and I feel like we’ve grown a lot as teammates this season. Sometimes, like with any teammates, we get frustrated; I might feel like he’s not passing the ball enough or he might feel like I’m forcing shots, but the type of chemistry that we have allows us to talk about those things so we can figure out what the other person really needs during the game.
I think that’s big to be able to approach each other and really be able to speak up about what’s going on and respond to it. Our chemistry is definitely at an all-time high.
We’re still planning to team-up in college!
It’s getting a little tricky because we’re not on the same page with some of the schools on our list so getting this thing done is a lot harder than we thought. But I would say that it’s definitely still on the forefront of our minds. We talk all the time about different school’s styles of play, the coaches, the fans and we try and convince each other one way or the other, haha!.
We do that all the time.
It’ll work out though; we’ll do what’s best for us.
Of course you guys know by now that my dad is an assistant at Washington and I’m definitely happy for him!
Washington has always been one of the top schools on my list and of course that doesn’t hurt that he’s there.
A lot of people think that my recruitment is over now because my dad is there and everyone knows that Coach (Lorenzo) Romar is my godfather, but I’m definitely far from making up my mind about college. I’m definitely still looking at some schools very seriously and my dad told me he wants me to do what’s best for me.
It’ll be funny when my dad starts recruiting me though, haha!
I’m sure it’ll be regular, but still funny. We’re really close so he’ll support whatever I feel is best for me. He’s my dad first.
We’re moving out to Washington in August so I’ll be enrolling at a new school, of course.
Right now I’m looking at schools in the area like Rainier Beach, Seattle Prep, Garfield or maybe another school. I’m not sure which one I’ll go with, but I’m excited to get a chance to play for another state title in a different state.
School is almost over! We get out on May 25 and I’m ready for that break.
I’ve got a few finals, got a few AP tests, but I’ll get through it!
I know everyone has been talking about Drake’s Views From the 6, but I wasn’t one of those guys that downloaded it right away. I know people are saying that it’s his greatest album; I dig it but I think it’s a little bit overrated.
I saw Batman vs. Superman recently and I was Team Batman so I was happy that he got that easy dub in that one! Then last week I saw Captain America: Civil War where he went against Ironman; I was Team Ironman, but he took an L in that one! That was a great movie though; I’d definitely tell you guys to check out both.
OK guys that’s another blog in the books. I appreciate you guys reading and check back soon because I’ll be back with another one.
