Trae Young is one of the most dynamic and electrifying scorers in the country, regardless of class, pumping in 35.4 points and handing out 8.2 assists per game for Norman North (Norman, Okla.) this season. Young, a junior who is ranked No. 20 overall in the ESPN 100, was plenty dominant on the Nike EYBL last summer as well, averaging 19 points, four rebounds and five assists a game, despite playing alongside No. 3 overall junior Michael Porter Jr. with Mokan Elite. Young is down to Missouri, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Stanford, Texas, Virginia, Duke, Kentucky, Texas Tech and SMU.
He’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.
What’s going on world I’m back with my second blog so I hope you guys enjoy this one!
Right now I’m getting ready for AAU season! For those who don’t already know I play for Mokan Elite and we’ve already started practice. We started up right after the state tourney and things are going great so far.
We’re all locked in from day one. Michael (Porter) and I are the leaders of the team and we’re vets on the EYBL so I feel like we have the team to win Peach Jam. We definitely have the talent, but it’ll take being focused and locked in every game. In this league anyone can be beat on any given day so you’ve gotta bring it!
This weekend is the first session on the EYBL in Brooklyn and I’m looking forward to it. This is the Mecca of basketball and it’s gonna be cool playing here. We play a New York team while we’re there and that’s gonna make it even more fun.
Of course I watched the McDonald’s All American Game like everyone else last week and it was definitely more competitive than I thought it would be. Guys were playing D and going at each other! I loved it.
Frank (Jackson) has been ballin’ since last summer, just doing his thing. Then it was fun watching Jayson (Tatum) and Josh (Jackson) got at it then Lonzo (Ball) and De’Aaron (Fox) went at it. It was fun to watch.
I saw the DICK’s Nationals too!
Man that was a lot of fun to watch the teams compete for the national title. A bunch of my friends were out there hoopin’ so that was definitely fun to see my guys do well. I would love the chance to play for a national title!
I’m definitely excited to get an invite to tryout for the USA U18 team in June! Just having the chance to represent my country is big for me. I want to win a gold medal!
Of course you want to know about recruiting, right?
Well, in the last couple of weeks Coach Cal and Coach Shaka Smart have come in to see me.
I really love talking to Coach Cal; he just keeps it so real with you and I love that. He told me a lot about the target that comes with being a player at Kentucky and that’s something I’m used to.
Of course I love the program and we’re just building a closer relationship. Coach Smart is a really cool guy too; we’re building a closer relationship and I love what he’s doing at Texas.
I’m looking to marrow my list down after the live period or around that time so we’ll see what happens. I will tell you guys know that me and Mike’s package deal is still looking strong!
School is going good too. I’m just trying to finish strong with the year winding down. We finish the year on May 26 and, of course, I’m looking forward to summer break!
Gotta tell y’all about that new movie Superman vs. Batman… I definitely wouldn’t recommend that one because, I mean, how are you gonna kill Superman!
Oops, sorry if you guys haven’t seen it yet… My bad guys!
But it really made me mad! Come one man, Superman is the best superhero in the world! That really hurt me though.
OK, well on that note I’m gonna get out of here.
I appreciate you guys reading my blog; hopefully you’re not too mad at me for the spoiler! Haha!
I’ll be back with another blog soon so check back with me.
