The Trevon Duval Blog: Reopening recruitment, 100 percent eligible, life at IMG and more

Trevon Duval is the No. 1 point guard and No. 5 overall player in the ESPN 100. Last summer his peers awarded him Best Handles hardware for his dominance during the AAU season and this past summer he dominated the competition like no other. The IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) star has nearly every college in the country all applying the full-court recruiting press for his services. Now he’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Trevon Duval

What’s going on basketball world, I’m back!

As most of you know I’m at IMG Academy now and it’s a totally different experience than what I’m used to, in a good way.

I’m loving Florida!

The weather it crazy though; right now either it’s really nice or it’s a hurricane! But, like I said, I love it!

Everyone here at IMG are athletes and it helps you get prepared for college.

I have practice and weight training from 8:45 a.m. to noon and from 1:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. I have normal school. It was challenging at first to adjust to that schedule, but now that I’m adjusted I love it.

I just love the process of me getting better; I can see it and feel it.

The biggest thing is that I have to make grownup decisions. They don’t baby you here. I can sleep in or I can be disciplined and get up and workout.

Same with classes.

It’s basically a college scenario. I know it’s helping me.

Our team should be really good too.

We’ve got a really strong frontcourt with Isaiah Stokes, Emmitt Williams and Silvio De Sousa. Our backcourt is strong too.

I definitely see us being in the Top 10 of the Super 25 this year.

The thing I want to improve on the most is my strength to get ready for college. That and I want to improve my jump shot. I want it at that Steph Curry level!

I do want to clear things up about my eligibility because I know there are a lot of rumors going around after I left API. Before I got to IMG, I met with the academic advisors and our rep here at IMG that works directly with the NCAA and they checked into everything and I’m 100 percent on track to graduate and be cleared through the Clearinghouse with no issues.

I was happy about that so I want everyone to know that.

My recruitment is going cool; I decided to open things up to any school that’s interested in me. I had been hearing a lot of coaches saying that they already knew which school I was going to and I didn’t want any school to think that because it’s not true.

For me, it doesn’t matter if you were there from the beginning, fell off a little bit or want to start recruiting me for the first time; I’m gonna give everyone a shot like they’ve been there from day one.

I tweeted out that I was reopening everything and since then I’ve heard from Duke and Baylor.

My plan is to set some officials and in-homes up in the next few weeks, and, like I said, everyone will get treated like they were an original.

I can’t wait for our season to start and I’m definitely looking forward for the NBA and college seasons to start too.

It’s almost here!

OK thanks for listening again basketball world. Glad we could clear things up in this blog and I’ll keep you guys posted on everything in my next blog.

Talk to you soon.
