The week ahead in volleyball: Oct. 17-23

Monday marks the start of the final full week of the regular season, if you can believe it or not. As I mentioned in the Monday’s schedule post earlier, I haven’t been feeling well since Saturday. I’m going out of town Wednesday until Sunday, so I want to try and recuperate as best I can before heading out and then diving into volleyball playoffs.

What you missed:

Column: Court jesters keep team morale high

What: Once reason why I love watching players like Panas’ Demi Spanos and Yorktown’s Macey Drezek, or teams like Westlake, is because they are fun-loving people who know how to let loose on the volleyball court while also locking in when things get serious. I wrote about how about how one individual can — positively or negatively — affect the team as a whole. The column also references Kendrick Lamar, the “TZ Anthem (JuJu On That Beat),” and the “Millie Rock,” so needless to say it’s worth the read. This column ran in the paper on Monday, Oct. 17.

Volleyball rankings: New Rochelle cracks the Top 10

What: New Rochelle moves into the Top 10 this week for the first time all season, knocking out Ardsley. Plenty of other teams in the Top 10 get shuffled around. This was posted to the blog Sunday and ran in the paper on Monday, Oct. 17.

Facebook Live: Chat with lohud volleyball beat writer Mike Zacchio (Episode No. 7)

What: In the seventh edition of my weekly Facebook Live chat on my work account, I discuss why I wrote my column on liberos, changes to my weekly rankings, coverage plans and more. Facebook Live chats will go on every Tuesday night at 8 p.m., unless otherwise noted. If you follow my account (not necessarily add me as a friend), you will get a notification when I go live. The chats will usually last between 10-20 minutes, depending on the amount of material I have to discuss. Email me questions ahead of time if there’s anything you’d like me to address! I’m at mzacchio@lohud.com.

Coverage plans: Oct. 17-23, 2016

There won’t be any live coverage this week, although I’ll try to get out to Ossining-Tappan Zee on Monday if I have the energy since it is somewhat close to my apartment. I’ll do my best to make sure everything continues to run smoothly, even while I’m thousands of miles away.
