The week ahead in volleyball: Sept. 5-11

By

Good afternoon, lohud volleyball faithful. This is the first of what will be regular posts throughout the season, which really kicks off tomorrow. Every Monday morning or early afternoon, I’ll have a post outlining the week’s coverage plans and including any links you might have missed over the week (these will always include rankings, player of the week, and my column, but may include additional content).

Since there was really no volleyball last week, there was no sense in picking a player of the week or re-ranking teams (even though there will be definite changes just from what I’ve seen lately). The first player of the week and regular-season rankings will be up this week. In the meantime, please delve into my two columns you might have missed before getting to this week’s coverage plans.

What you missed:

Column: Westchester (finally) has a boys volleyball team

What: Scarsdale is the first Westchester County school to have a boys volleyball program in Section 1. My column discusses why that is a big deal, and what it could mean for the future of boys volleyball in the section. This column ran in the paper on Monday, Sept. 5.

Column: Yonkers volleyball deserved better

What: Yonkers’ girls volleyball team did not have a coach days before the preseason started for the third consecutive year. My column includes details surrounding the situation, commentary from players and new head coach Alicia Murray (who was the head coach through 2013), and commentary why the girls deserved better than the situation they got. This column ran in the paper on Monday, Aug. 29.

Facebook Live chat: Episode 1 (Aug. 30, 2016)

What: The first of what will be weekly Facebook Live chats on my work account, I discuss why I wrote the Yonkers volleyball column, preseason rankings, and give an overall introduction to myself and the season’s plans. Facebook Live chats will go on every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. If you follow my account (not necessarily add me as a friend), you will get a notification when I go live. The chats will usually last between 5-15 minutes, depending on the amount of material I have to discuss.

Coverage plans: Sept. 5-11, 2016

I’ll be tweeting out results and statistics each night and then compiling the information for a results post that night. If I have something going on at night, am covering football (Friday nights), or am off for the night, the post may go up the following morning. Follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute information at @Zacchio_LoHud. You can also follow me on Snapchat and Instagram at the same handles for additional content and coverage.
