In a loaded defensive end crop in the class of 2016, Rashard Lawrence is right near the top of the list. The Neville High star is a 6-foot-3, 305-pound mountain of athleticism and determination, and on Friday he finally ended suspense about where he would play his collegiate football.
Rashard Lawrence will be a LSU Tiger.
Lawrence made his decision at a ceremony at Neville High, capping weeks of intrigue that peaked in recent days with teachers offering up both LSU and Ohio State themed candies, much to Lawrence’s amusement. On Friday he was introduced by his high school coach at a podium in the Neville auditorium before announcing his decision at a table while dressed in a black and yellow suit, the colors of Neville High.
Lawrence offered a shout out to God, his family and the senior class before emphatically announcing that he would be staying close to home and attending LSU.
In the end, the allure of home and an elite recruiting class in Baton Rouge was too strong for Lawrence to overlook, which sets up the opportunity for the big lineman to make a quick impact for Les Miles and co. If he’s the game-changer he was at the high school level in college, Miles’ fortunes may look much different in 12 or 24 months, too.
