Here’s a quick look at the top boys basketball games to watch in Southern Indiana this week:
Jeffersonville at New Albany – First-year Jeffersonville coach Joe Luce will get his first up-close look at the rivalry on Friday night. The Red Devils (7-5) are coming off their most impressive win of the season, a double-overtime victory at Louisville Manual, while the Class 4-A No. 3 Bulldogs (7-1) have won four straight after conquering No. 5 Evansville Reitz.
The series, which dates back to the 1909-10 season, could not be closer. New Albany leads it 78-77 after winning the last two meetings, including last season’s 78-36 beatdown at Johnson Arena. The teams are deadlocked atop the Hoosier Hills Conference at 2-0 (along with Jennings County).
Providence at Clarksville – The teams are meeting for the second time in nine days. The Pioneers (6-3) prevailed 49-30 in the consolation game of the holiday tournament at Silver Creek on Dec. 30. Providence has won four straight in the series. Clarksville (2-7) has lost three straight this season, and both its wins were in overtime.
Borden at Silver Creek – On Saturday night, Class 3-A No. 3 Silver Creek (10-0) will face Class A No. 7 Borden (10-1). Both teams will be action Friday, with the Dragons visiting Eastern Pekin while the Braves clash with New Washington.
Silver Creek has won four of the last five meetings and dominated last year’s game 45-25. Silver Creek’s Christian Reed is averaging 20.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
