Here’s a quick look at the key games to watch this week in Southern Indiana:
New Albany at Bloomington North: New Albany, ranked No. 1 in Class 4-A, will seek to extend its winning streak to 18 consecutive games when the Bulldogs (20-1) visit Bloomington North to conclude the regular season on Friday night.
Two Division I recruits in the class of 2018 will be on display. New Albany sophomore star Romeo Langford is averaging 29.3 points, while 6-foot-5 sophomore Musa Jallow is averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Cougars (7-13). Senior guard Malik Laffoon, whose late shot gave the Cougars an overtime victory over New Albany in the 2014 regional final at Seymour, leads North in scoring at 16.9.
Riley Crean, the son of Indiana University coach Tom Crean, averages 6.2 for North.
Charlestown at Jeffersonville: On Tuesday night, the Pirates (15-6 with 7 straight wins) will attempt to end a 9-game losing streak against the Red Devils (11-11). Charlestown is only 2-19 in series history at Johnson Arena and hasn’t conquered the Devils since the championship game of the 1997 sectional.
Columbus East at Floyd Central: The Highlanders (13-8) have won five of their last six games and could continue their momentum for the Class 4-A sectional at Seymour with a win over East (11-11) to finish the regular season on Friday night.
Floyd Central leads the HHC in defense, allowing only 48.8 points per game.
