Ben Davis has spent his high school years starring for Gordo High in Alabama. The fans he built up won’t have to go far to continue following his ascent to national prominence, with the five-star linebacker prospect signing with Alabama on National Signing Day Wednesday. He made his announcement by choosing a Bear Bryant-style houndstooth hat rather than baseball caps representing his other potential schools.
“Coach Saban loves big linebackers who can run, and allow my d-line to make tackles,” Davis said at his ceremony Wednesday. “I had to go with my gut and roll with the Tide.”
The Gordo star was always considered a likely Crimson Tide star. His father, Wayne, is Alabama’s all-time leading tackler and allegedly was, “pushing my alma mater” to his son. You can see more about that in the AL.com video below:
Davis picked Alabama ahead of Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Notre Dame. He has long been considered a likely Alabama commit, and he is ready to make his mark quickly, in the mold of other recent commits who were household names within their first two seasons on campus.
Whether that is Ben Davis remains to be seen, though his coaches are clearly hopeful he has the goods. So are his new fans. If there was any question that Davis is ready to go, just check out his best moments from Gordo below. That looks like a star who is ready to us.
