Clovis, Calif., improved to 14-0 on Tuesday and went from unranked to the No. 6 spot in the Super 25 baseball rankings as Connor Jorgensen went 3-for-5 with the winning single in a 6-5 defeat of Oakmont (Roseville).
The Cougars lead three new teams in the rankings. The other two are No. 11 Providence (Charlotte), which improved to 9-0 on Tuesday and No. 22 Basic (Henderson, Nev.), which is 12-1. In Basic’s wins Tuesday, Gehrig Timmons hit the go-ahead single in a 3-2 defeat of San Pedro, Calif., and Ethen Ryan scattered six hits in a 3-1 defeat of Independence (Bakersfield, Calif.).

Archbishop McCarthy (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) held onto the top spot, improving to 15-0 as it advanced to the gold bracket championship of the HSBN March Madness Shootout Tuesday with a 7-5 defeat of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale). Adan Fernandez had two homers in the win.
