Bishop Verot junior Nolan Jerriey finds himself just two shots off the lead at the Class A State Championships at Howey-in-the-Hills after shooting an even-par 72 on the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn on Friday.
Jerriey posted a 36 on the front nine with a lone bogey on the sixth hole, but made a birdie on the par-3 12th to get back to even par. After a bogey on 14, Jerriey countered with a birdie on the 16th hole and parred the last two holes for a 1-under back nine.
Canterbury’s Brittany Shin in her bid to win a second straight state championship shot a 1-over 73 on Mission Inn’s Las Colinas Course and finds herself five shots off the lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.
The sophomore, who won the 2A individual title for Ida Baker last year, started on the back nine and had a double bogey on the 14th hole, bogeys on 16 and 18, but managed a birdie 17 to go out in plus three 40.
Shin started the front nine by making a birdie on the par-3 second hole, but gave that shot back with a bogey on the fourth. A strong finish with birdies on her last two holes gives her an outside chance at another state championship.
The Cougars sit in 14th place as a team after posting a 388. Lake Mary Prep leads after shooting an impressive 3-under 285.
Hannah Bailey (94), Alyson Bozof (109), Alice Bailey (112) and Ingrid Leigh (119) shot for the Cougars.
Bishop Verot’s Gaby Vetter shot a 95 as an individual and sits in a tie for 69th.
