Manchester United 16-year-old Aidan Barlow is one of the prime prospects in the Man United academy system. He showed why in a recent U-16 game against the club’s counterparts from Newcastle.
First Barlow collected the ball on the left flank, then he cut in against a Newcastle wing defender. In the process, he drew his defender right up to him, produced a spot perfect heel flick over his own head and that of his defender en route to a clean shot on goal. From there, Barlow made no mistake, burying a powerful right-footed shot on goal before whirling away to celebrate by kicking out the left corner flag.
The goal was a remarkable bit of skill form a truly skilled player, the kind of move that is usually only even attempted by the likes of Barcelona and Brazil star Neymar. Could Barlow eventually reach Neymar’s heights? That might seem like a stretch, but for a talent as creative as Barlow who is already physically and mentally capable of playing up two years with Manchester United’s Under-18 squad you just never know.
