The season hasn’t even started in many states, but we already have the first outrageous final drive game-winner, courtesy Auburn High in Alabama.
After ceding 14 straight points to Carver High and finding itself in a 14-10 deficit, Auburn called on the wildest play in it’s playbook: A reverse, QB option Hail Mary. Somehow, it worked, with quarterback Brooks Fuller unleashing a 37-yard deep ball that was caught by double-covered running back Garrett Morris for the game-winner.
Morris’ touchdown came with just enough time for Auburn to line up for the smallest bit of defense possible, with the Tigers recording a pair of sacks to seal a 17-14 win that seemed highly, highly unlikely just moments before.
“Amazing,” Morris told the Opelika-Auburn News “Just an amazing start to the year. What else can you say?”
