Playing in the Texas high school state tournament at the Alamodome in San Antonio, one would assume, would be the thrill of a lifetime. Brownfield’s Jaelyn Nolan put his own stamp on the experience, throwing down a nasty one-handed, off-the-glass alley-oop from Alex McCrary in Thursday’s semifinal.
The real beauty of the play is just how choreographed it looked, and, to that point, how un-surprised Nolan’s teammates appear to be after watching him throw it down. That, or watching the opposing coach in the background immediately signal for a timeout.
Nolan finished with 22 points to lead Brownfield past Aransas Pass 70-54 and into its first-ever appearance in the Texas Class 3A state championship game.
