It takes a special athlete to perfectly execute a screen pass, and Murrieta Valley (Calif.) senior wide receiver Teirron “T.J.” Griffin appears to be just that.
In a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 quarterfinal game in which his team racked up a staggering 855 yards of total offense in a 65-48 win over Norco, Griffin may have put together the prettiest 71 yards of the bunch on this one play.
Watch as Griffin takes the screen pass from Hank Bachmeier (440 yards passing), then immediately avoids one tackler while ducking another. Then, it’s a full-on sprint, and nobody on the Norco defense has a bead on Griffin in that respect. He sheds one more tackle before finding daylight and going untouched into the end zone.
Other teammates had huge days, as Lika Palmer ran for 351 yards and Marquis Spiker had 14 catches for 230 yards. Griffin’s TD, though – as the Fox Sports West Twitter account put it, it was so good that “it should have counted for two TDs!”
