Samaya Clark Gabriel is in first grade, but she’s already one of the better basketball dribblers you’ll ever see.
That’s Gabriel above, weaving through cones that she puts up for herself … while dribbling, of course. She has tricks on top of tricks on top of tricks, catching tennis balls while dribbling, rolling a ball while dribbling, dribbling with both hands, just to name a few. She runs with a parachute trailing, she dribbles behind her back and rips the ball away from an opponent in a scrimmage.
All of these moves are impressive for anyone. For a 6-year-old, they’re unheard of.
There’s plenty of time for Gabriel to continue on and become one of the great basketball players of her age. Or to burn out on the sport altogether and opt for soccer, or tennis or bowling. Who knows.
In fact, in the past she’s taken up soccer and boxing. This is three sports in the span of three years …
All that does seem certain is that whichever Gabriel does stick with it, she will have one heck of a foundation to build on.
