Any time a middle schooler throws down a dunk in competition it deserves another look. When they flush said dunk after weaving the ball between their legs, well, that’s extra special.
Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised such a move was delivered by Jordan Toles. He’s starting to shape up as a pretty special player. The Annapolis, Md. native is an explosive player whose athleticism seems to have set in a bit ahead of schedule. As a result, he’s virtually unguardable in the open court. And that’s saying nothing of dunk contests.
Wait, dunk contests? There are middle school dunk contests? Yes, occasionally exceptional talents like Toles get a chance to showcase their athleticism at youth camps. Case in point: The recent NEO Youth Elite Camp, where Toles capped off events by flushing the ridiculous between-the-legs slam you see here.
That’s an emphatic eastbay, which quite expectedly earned Toles the NEO Elite dunk contest with a victory over two other unnamed teens. It has to be said: Not only did Toles hit an eastbay, he connected on one perfectly, as a 6-foot-3 eighth grader.
There’s no guarantee that Toles will go on to become the next Kobi Simmons, but he’s certainly off to a good start.
