How often do you see a 1-0 final score in a lacrosse game? Not very often. There is one thing that’s at least as rare: A full-field goal by a goalie. Incredibly, one early spring scrimmage combined both those factors.
During North Reading’s scrimmage against Massachusetts foe Longfellow, the teams were knotted in a scoreless tie when Reading goalie C.J. Hart got the ball with just enough time to launch a monster 80-yard heave downfield.
Rarely has a desperation heave been more accurate. Hart’s toss-cum-shot lofted over the top of the stick of the Longmeadow goalie, slipping in to the net for a clean, game-winning goal in North Reading’s 1-0 victory.
The win won’t count on either team’s official schedule, but it does get North Reading off to a good start, all while providing Hart with the personal highlight of a lifetime.
