USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 squads St. Benedict’s and La Lumiere faced off in the opening quarterfinal game of the annual DICK’S Nationals tournament in a thriller, with La Lumiere ekeing out a 60-59 victory thanks to a Brian Bowen circus shot in the lane in the final 20 seconds, followed by scrappy defense on the other end. While Bowen may have been the ultimate scene stealer, the player who left the biggest impression may have been Bourama Sidibe, a three-star center for the Gray Bees who held a bona fide block party throughout Thursday’s game.
Sidibe finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, though it was his work defending the interior that was most jaw dropping. The 6-foot-9, 220-pounder was a beast inside, registering multiple blocks including one of the most ferocious attempts of the season.
That’s Sidibe chasing down a would-be La Lumiere layup and sending it into the stands. It was a heck of a rejection, and just one of a handful the big man provided to help keep St. Benedict’s in a dog fight throughout.
A junior, Sidibe holds scholarship offers from the likes of Arizona State, Memphis, Seton Hall, SMU and Arkansas, among others. With his physicality and ability to finish at the rim on the offensive end and protect it on defense, something tells us he may get quite a bit more recruiting attention in the weeks and months ahead.
