Desmond Bane of Seton Catholic (Richmond, Ind.) got the Class A sectional crowd on its feet Friday night at Blue River with a massive dunk against the host Vikings.

Viking junior Jonah Madison, who was defending as the 6-3 Bane — a Mr. Basketball candidate in the state — barreled through the paint for the slame, was on the floor for more than a minute after the hard contact. He was helped off the floor and to the locker room, but was OK after the game.

Seton won and then beat Union City 62-38 to win the section championship. It next plays Liberty Christian (Anderson, Ind.) on March 12.

The dunk was part of a 41-point, 12-rebound performance for Bane.

Entering Friday, Bane averaged 30.2 points a game, putting him second in the entire state of Indiana and first in Class A, according to stats on MaxPreps.com.

His 11.5 rebounds per game are fourth in Indiana and third in Class A and last week he was mentioned as a candidate for the Indianapolis Star’s Mr. Basketball award.

Bane has been offered by Miami (Ohio), Ohio University, Ball State, IPFW, IUPUI, Furman, Air Force and has received attention from Purdue, Butler and others.
