You won’t see a more exciting game than this in all of March Madness, at any level.
With a Minnesota state tournament berth on the line, Waseca topped Marshall by a score of 103-100 in four overtimes. The game was elongated time after time by wild buzzer beaters, with a last-ditch shot sending the game to overtime, third overtime, fourth overtime and, finally a game-winner.
Deadspin chronicled the game as it evolved on social media, including the contest’s true show stopper: This three from nearly full-court by Waseca’s Nick Dufault (the coach’s nephew). The shot came just when Marshall appeared to have the game wrapped up, with both teams, fans and all onlookers sent into absolute delirium when Dufault’s shot soared through.
That set up the final act, with Waseca’s Cole Streich delivering a game-winning trey at the end of the fourth extra period to finally bring the marathon to an end.
The victory earns Waseca a spot in the Minnesota state tournament, not to mention one of the most memorable wins in state history. No matter what happens from here in, Dufault, Steich and their teammates will always have that one night in early March to reminisce on, time and again.
