VIDEO: Man proposes to drill instructor at halftime of Texas playoff game

If there was any question about the role that high school football plays in Texas society, just consider this: One man decided it was the ideal place to propose to his longtime girlfriend.

To be fair, the man in question is David Harvey, the boyfriend of Frisco Independence drill team instructor Britt Shaver. As reported by the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Florek, at halftime of Independence’s 47-28 victory against McKinney North, the P.A. system at the Star, the Cowboys’ training facility and home field for Frisco teams, began playing Bruno Mars’ hit “Marry you.”

That’s when Harvey walked out from the crowd and dropped to a knee in front of Shaver. She accepted the proposal, her charges on the drill team went as wild as one might expect, and even the Independence football team reportedly stopped to applaud. Impressive.

Luckily for all of us who were not in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex on Friday, there was extensive social media coverage of the proposal, which you can see directly below, also thanks to Florek’s great work. Note that the stadium camera made sure to show off the new diamond on the jumbotron.
