What a finish!

A Hail Mary caught five yards short of the end zone. A lateral by a receiver who was pushing to the end zone. And a touchdown with no time left on the clock.

McKeesport is headed to the WPIAL 5A final in Western Pennsylvania for the first time since 2005 with a 41-38 victory against Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.).

Quarterback Jayvaun Shears threw the pass from midfield that was caught by Layton Jordan, who then found J.J. Harper. Harper ran the final five yards for the score.

“I was still pushing,” Jordan told TribLive.com. “I was fighting to stay on my feet until my players came to push me.”

Said McKeesport coach Matt Miller: “Somebody’s shining down on us. That had to be some kind of divine intervention to make that happen.”
