Another week, another crop of jaw dropping highlights from top running back prospect Najee Harris.
This time, the Antioch superstar and Alabama commit found himself facing off against crosstown rival Deer Valley, with Antioch desperately needing another victory to shore up the program’s playoff hopes. Originally, Harris had been scheduled to leave the game early so he and his mother could race to Sacramento and catch a flight to Tuscaloosa, where Harris was scheduled to take an official visit and watch Alabama’s game against Texas A&M. Instead, he missed the flight and reeled off the miraculous 45-yard touchdown you see above, breaking no fewer than seven Deer Valley tackles in the process.
As reported by MaxPreps’ Mitch Stephens, Harris’ touchdown above finally spotted Antioch a lead and sparked a larger, longer explosion that led to the much more one-sided 44-19 victory. In the end, Harris was responsible for four touchdowns and 217 yards, and a scene worthy of a Nickelodeon or Disney Channel movie, with Harris scoring his final fourth quarter touchdown to pad the lead and then sprinting out of the stadium with his mother in a mad dash to try and make their flight to Alabama.
It never quite happened, though Antioch had another essential victory to thank for Harris efforts, which weren’t just encapsulated in that one 45-yard touchdown scamper. There were also explosive plays like this hurdle, below:
There has been no new date set for Harris’ official visit to Alabama. Something tells us Nick Saban will wait patiently for Harris to make it. After all, talent like that doesn’t show up very often.
