Members of New Albany’s basketball team were given a sweet reminder of last season’s success and this season’s expectations prior to the start of the Bulldogs’ season opener Saturday.
Moments before taking the floor against Class 4-A No. 6 Bloomington South, the Bulldogs players and coaching staff were honored and presented with championship rings from last year’s thrilling state-title run. The 2015-2016 Bulldogs, led by star sophomore guard Romeo Langford, completed a 27-1 season with a 62-59 over McCutcheon in the final. It was New Albany’s first state title since 1973.
With Langford back for his junior year, New Albany was a unanimous selection in the AP Indiana boys basketball preseason poll as the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4-A.
