From the “If you want something done right, do it yourself” school of thought, we give you Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (Chardon, Ohio) senior linebacker Ryan LaBanc.
With his team clinging to a 10-6 lead in Friday night’s Division IV, Region 13 regional semifinal playoff game against Youngstown’s Cardinal Mooney at Niles McKinley’s Bo Rein Memorial Stadium, LaBanc provided a little insurance. As a result of a goal-line stand against the Lions’ offense late in the third quarter, Mooney was back on offense and pinned deep.
Befitting the team name, the Lions’ LaBanc pounced.
In the above video, you can see LaBanc avoid a blocker and then meet Mooney’s running back at the 3 yard line, stripping the ball in the same instant. LaBanc then grabs his own forced fumble and carries the ball and a Mooney offensive player or two into the end zone. His points ended up being the winning ones, as Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (9-3) advanced with a narrow 17-12 victory.
A tackle, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a game-winning touchdown – for LaBanc, all in a play’s work.
