VIDEO: Ohio senior scores 1,000th point on game-winning basket

If this were a cheesy ’80s movie, not even John Hughes could’ve scripted this better.

Fairless (Navarre, Ohio) senior guard Alley Leeman scored her 1,000th career point on a spinning game-winning layup that left one Canton South (Ohio) foe on the ground and split another two collapsing defenders for a 41-39 girls’ basketball victory with the ultimate cherry on top.

“This is very overwhelming, especially with how it happened,” Leeman told CantonRep.com on Wednesday. “It was crazy. At half, I didn’t really think I was going to get it, and I wasn’t really worried. How it happened was as good as it could get.”

Needing 16 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her high school career, Leeman scored her team’s final five points — a three-point play to give Fairless and 39-37 lead with a little over a minute left and the game-winner with 3.4 seconds remaining — according to CantonRep.com.

And for those of you confused by that John Hughes reference, he’s the guy who wrote almost every great ’80s movie, including The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Home Alone and Christmas Vacation. If he were writing Leeman’s storybook ending, her game-winning 1,000th point probably would’ve come in the state championship game, but otherwise — what a way to reach a milestone.
