Imagine if Odell Beckham Jr. had made his now famous catch near midfield and then landed on his two feet and took off toward the end zone. Incredibly, that’s not far off what unfolded in Texas at a Friday night game between Holmes and Marshall in the San Antonio school’s latest victory.
After taking the snap, Holmes quarterback James Valdez dropped back and lofted a pass down the right sideline right to the hands of Quentrevious Wright. The athletic, 6-foot-5 senior elevated and snared the ball in midair, then pivoted and sprinted toward the end zone. Starting at the 46, where Wright got up just high enough to snag the ball in front of the defense, the wide out showcased excellent field vision to cut a line where the Marshall defense couldn’t cut him off.
The result was a stunning touchdown in Holmes’ 48-21 blowout of a crosstown rival. It will be a tough play to top any week throughout the remainder of the season.
