The Canisius football team was preparing for its Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association championship when one of Buffalo’s biggest celebrities dropped by.
As reported by the Buffalo News, Rex Ryan made a surprise appearance in Canisius’ meeting room at the Bills fieldhouse as the team was preparing for its game against St. Francis. Ryan’s speech focused on the importance of every single player on the success of the team … through the microcosm of his own son.
The reference there is Clemson holder Seth Ryan, who only sees action for field goals and extra points, but is still an integral part of Clemson’s reigning ACC championship team, the same Tigers squad which nearly won a national title.
Apparently the motivational message got through to the Canisius players, who went on to top St. Francis, 31-20, to win the MMHSAA title. Was it Ryan’s speech? We may never know.
